Gottschalk armoire, pictured in a catalog page shown in The Wonderful “Moritz Gottschalk 1892-1931” book on page 196. This beautiful armoire is made of wood, painted in a red lacquer with gold accents and has shelves inside.
The double doors have a lovely fret work design with original green leaf print on paper backing. Amazingly this paper is fully intact with not tears or damage, and the glossy red backing on the inside of the doors is also in excellent condition.
The armoire is in excellent condition for being over 100 years old with only a few minor rubs and nicks to the paint, and no breaks or repairs. The cabinet stands 8 3/4” tall, 5 3/4” wide and 2” deep. I show a picture of this cabinet in my larger Gottschalk house standing next to a 6 1/2” tall German doll for scale. There is a small strip of paper on the back with handwriting that I can’t make out and some numbers. There is also some German writing on the bottom with “NO-35.”
